New .50 cal Rental

Hello Airsofters! This week we have a heavy duty rental that you don’t see too often on the field. Thankfully, Airsoft Action Field has an awesome rental program that is offering up some premium AEG’s. So this week we are adding the M82. This is not the SOCOM CO2 version. The reason we went with the Snow Wolf version is that it is 1/3 of the cost, and hits harder. Also, the SOCOM version does not have any spare rounds to purchase, so after the 5 shots you have to charge and reload each round making game play less effective. Also it has a set fps at 280 and you can’t really upgrade it. So for those reasons we went with the Snow Wolf version. It is more cost affective at $500, 200 round mag, spare parts, and upgradeable. So let’s check it out:

This AEG is massive, weighing in at 15.5 lbs. The actual M82 weighs in at 30.9 lbs. so it’s about 1/2 of the weight of the real thing. The whole AEG is 4 feet 9.5 inches long. So for those reasons accessories like bipods and a sling are a must.

A little side note, the inner barrel is far shorter than the outer barrel, so the long version is just for looks, but performs the same as the short version. In retrospect, the short version could be a little easer to use due to weight and length. But the long version looks great on the wall.

The M82 version we ordered comes with a built in compact front sight and a removable rear sight. However the rear sight is incredibly small and not very practical. So we removed it and added a 50mm 9power scope with illuminated sights, sun shade and flip-up covers.

The M82 comes with a built in bipod and a removable rear monopod.  The M82 monopod does not fold away like the M200. Other than looks, it really does not help with game play so we left it off, otherwise it just becomes another thing to fall off. The bipod is adjustable, and extends up to 4 inches.

The battery space is in the rear of the gun. To access it just remove the one pin and slide the top half of the AEG forward. The space is large and able to fit up to a 9.6 large battery. I don’t have a large 10.8 to try but im sure it would fit as well. The AEG is fitted for a small battery but that is easily converted if you want. This large battery space will come in handy for our upgrade down the road.

The gearbox is a standard version 2 gear box. So upgraded and replacement parts are available. Stock out of the box the M82 shoots a surprising 342FPS. A lot weaker than the usual AEG but we’ll change that in next weeks post. Now this could just be a relaxed spring because not many people buy them or just a weak stock spring. Online, Evike’s details read 450 FPS, but we have other plans for this AEG down the line. Like we mentioned earlier, the inner barrel does not run the full length of the M82 but it does come with the longest barrel on the market at 650mm.

DSCN0080Game play: As a semi auto sniper rifle you have the advantage over bolt action sniper rifles. The 200 round mag is 10 times larger than most bolt action rifles and the semi auto feature allow you to send more BB’s down range faster. The M82 also has a full auto feature, however the mag is fairly small for a full auto mode but it could come in handy.

Exercise Eager Lion 12

The drawbacks of using the M82: The weight and length of this AEG make it hard to wield as well as maneuver. On the other hand, as a sniper you should be sneaking and ambushing the other team anyway. This is a one of a kind sniper rifle. Once we completely upgrade it we will add it to our arsenal of rental guns. Be sure to read our blog next week when we show you a step by step, cost affective, DIY upgrade.

New Rental AEG

Hello Airsofters, This week we have a new AEG to add to the rental program. The Lancer Tactical PDW.

The package contains the PDW, 2 mags ( one high cap, one standard ) PEQ battery, wall charger, front and rear flip up sights, QD sling mount, cleaning rod and .20 BB’s.DSCN0045

There are two versions of Lancer tactical PDW, the all polymer (MAP at about $100) and the full metal (MAP at about $199). Today we are talking using the Full metal version for our Blog. The main difference aside from the metal body, are the sights, battery pack and metal detail parts such as the selector.  The metal version sights are awesome and function perfectly.

The EPQ box is also amazing and has a plethora of printed markings to make it look even more realistic. There is also a rail on the EPQ for other accessories. Inside the EPQ is a small 9.6v battery.

The small details like the all metal selector help the realism of the PDW. The selector is also ambidextrous as well as the mag release. So lefty shooters rejoice.

The LT PDW is also very sling friendly with 3 QD sling mounts ports. One located on near the rear of the selector, one at the base of the stock and one on the folding stock. However there are no QD ports near the front of the AEG, meaning that 3 or 2 point sling is not what this gun is designed for. The one point sling would be the most appropriate and that makes the most sense due to the compact size and because this is a personal defense weapon. It should be noted that yes you can buy rail mounted QD ports to add to the front, but with that logic you can also add grenade launcher to the front, so sure do what ever you want this is America.

The PDW may be small but it does pack a fill size punch. The FPS is about 390-400. We chronoed it at 391-400 with .20g. So players can take this to an out door field and have no problem playing with other full size AEG

The size of this AEG also a bonus to players that like to rush or ambush. The size is far smaller then the usual M4. Look at the side by side size comparison. The PDW is almost an oversized pistol compaired to the M4. So rushing or running with it wouldn’t be a problem.

If you compare this to an full size rifle like the m16 it just looks tiny.DSCN0041

The small size also allows it to be a great back up to a sniper. It can easily fit in a dump pouch or back pack and with a few high caps you can easily hold off an advancing opponent.

Now if you are an indoor player this AEG also is a great choice. The quad rails allow for many accessories. So we add a few just to see what it might look like as a mine weapon. First we removed the flip up sights then added a hologram sight. Then we moved the battery pack to the right side of the AEG. Next we added the integrated flash light grip. And overall it looks amazing.

Now for the bad news. the LT PDW comes with a plastic hop up. Not the regular black nylon, but the clear plastic style. But that a $15 fix, and I just so happen to have a few laying around the shop. Maybe LT will read this one day and change it out.

So retail or rental Airsoft Action Field has it for you.

Arctic Airsofter Tips

Hello Airsofters, this week we have some cold weather tips from our friends located in Finland. These Airsofters don’t let the extreme cold get in the way of their game day. They play all winter long in -22 F.

These tips are for players that play for long amounts of time in the cold or in tempatures that are below 32 F. These tips come from some of our readers on airsoft reddit, thank you for reading! Now let’s get down to business.

First up, staying dry with waterproof clothing. To be more precise, snow boarding gear. Regular camouflage can absorb water, making you heavier and also colder. To avoid this use snow boarding pants. If your snow boarding pants are brightly colored get a pair of arctic colored camouflage to go over them. You can pick these up from ebay or any online surplus store. The idea is to wear them over your snow boarder pants.

Next tip, Socks and boot liners. Yes we are talking about keeping your feet warm. First up Smart wool socks, these socks are worth the money but will set you back a bit. Next up boot liners, these will keep you warm and will range in price from $25-$50.

Next up AEG modifications. These tips will help keep your AEG from breaking in the extreme cold. First up, Change your basic hop up bucking to a silicon bucking. Why? Because a regular plastic hop up unit will freeze and become hard and inflexible causing it to crack and break. Next up powerful DMR style weapons users should be warned that plastic parts will break easily and if possible should be changed out for metal parts. For example  cylinder head, piston, piston head and so on. Lastly, grease up –  extra grease will help your gears from stripping.

So Thanks to our Airsofters in Finland and all the airsofters who read Airsoft Action Field’s blog.

Next up game day review. This week we played at the Laurel field. There were over 30 players new and old, and at the end of the day everyone enjoyed some chow. Thanks Josh!

Next up field update. Nothing new to report on the field location.

Rental update. This week we got a hold of a new M40 by Lancer tactical. This bolt action rifle opens up the options to renters who want to try a special weapon on their team. Check out our new Rental page for prices details and updates.
